Back in 2009, a group of Canadian researchers from the University of Windsor in Ontario began to look at abundant weeds as a cure for cancer.
It all started when one oncologist discovered something very interesting in some cancer patients. You can not believe, the plant we are talking about is a dandelion!
A post-doctoral student from the University of Windsor named Pamela Ovadieu has done a great job on this topic. She studied the anti-cancer properties of dandelion and similar extracts.
“We had information from one oncologist, a co-author in Windsor, who had patients who showed improvement after taking tea from the root of a dandelion. And so, from one phone call, we decided to start studying what was in this tea, which made the patients react to it, so we started digging dandelions. ”
At first she was very suspicious, but not because it was a natural source. “I thought that there were dandelions all over, and if there were anything, people would already understand this,” explained Ovadier.
We should be pleased to hear that the researchers began to conduct research on the extract of the dandelion root and its effects on cancer, because the results are more than stunning!
“Since the beginning of this project, we have been able to successfully evaluate the effect of a simple aqueous extract of dandelion root on various types of human cancer cells in the laboratory, and we have observed its effectiveness against human leukemia, chronic myelomonocytic leukemia, colon and pancreatic cancer, For non-cancer cells. In addition, these efficacy studies were confirmed in animal models (mice) that were transplanted with cancer cells of human colon cancer. ” (A source)
The extract of the dandelion root was approved for human trials in February 2015. Now he is in the first phase of trials for the treatment of cancer in the terminal stage, such as lymphoma and leukemia.
Dr. Siyamam Pandey, professor of chemistry and biochemistry at the University of Windsor and principal investigator for the project, said that the dandelion root extract has a “good potential” to cause the death of cancer cells.
How it works?
This extract leads to the fact that cancer cells undergo apoptosis, which is a natural cellular process when the cell activates the intracellular program of death, because it is no longer needed. In short, the extract of dandelion root causes cancer cells to “commit suicide” without affecting the healthy.
Two cells perform apoptosis, much better than chemotherapeutic drugs that kill one healthy cell for every 5-10 cancer cells, a dandelion extract.
It is very important to mention that the concentration of this extract is much higher than the concentration currently available. Although some tests are still ongoing, this extract may become a future cancer treatment!
